YouTube Just Dropped 2 Scary Updates – Here’s What You NEED to Know!

-

YouTube has just released two scary updates, and as a content creator, it’s essential to be aware of these updates so that you can take action before they affect you. In this post, we’ll break down all the YouTube July 15 updates, explain who they’ll impact, and provide actionable steps to protect your channel.

Who will be affected? What do these updates mean? I’ll explain it to you.

Update #1: YouTube is Removing a Key Ad Category

YouTube is removing a vital ad category starting this July 15. If you didn’t know, some settings allow you to block certain types of ads on your channel, such as those related to gambling, politics, or adult content. etc

But as it stands now, there are two categories you could block to avoid sexual ads:

1. Reference to Sex

2. Bare Skin (Image Only)

However, YouTube is currently removing the “Bare Skin” type, which implies that you’ll no longer be able to block ads that show only images of shirtless models or bikini thumbnails.

But suppose you insist on avoiding sexual ad content. In that case, the only remaining option to filter sexualized ads will be the “Reference to Sex” category, which is not a huge deal for everyone. Still, if your brand is sensitive or family-friendly, this consideration is necessary.

What Should You Do?

  • Look at your YouTube Studio’s Ad Settings.
  • If you depend on strict ad controls, try adjusting your content strategy to avoid attracting ads you don’t want.

Update #2: YouTube is cracking down on repetitive/low-quality mass-produced content

This update is a big blow. YouTube is updating its monetisation policies under the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), and according to the new update, they are only looking for original and authentic content.

Currently, with AI becoming mainstream, people are scaling like big, running 10, 20, or even 30 channels in the same niche. I have seen so many creators doing this. But YouTube is cracking down on repetitive and low-quality mass-produced content, which means if your videos look similar in the following categories:

  • Exact titles
  • Duplicate thumbnails
  • Rewritten transcripts from someone else’s video

If you fall into this category, your monetisation may be disabled.

Why is YouTube Doing This?

  • Low Average View Duration (AVD) – If people click but leave quickly, fewer ads play, which leads YouTube to lose ad revenue
  • Frustrated Viewers – Bad content hurts YouTube’s reputation and ad revenue.

For example, a 15-minute video can show 2–3 ads. However, if people only watch 2 minutes, only one ad is displayed. YouTube loses money

  • AI-Generated Spam – YouTube wants to prevent lazy, mass-produced channels.

Who Will Be Affected?

  • AI-Generated Channels – If you’re running 10+ channels with the same formula, expect scrutiny.
  • Content Farms – Channels that repurpose others’ videos with minimal changes.
  • Clickbait-Heavy Creators – If retention is low, YouTube may demonetise you.

So what’s the solution?

If you want to live and thrive on YouTube:

  • Focus on Quality Over Quantity – Even if you use AI, ensure your scripts are engaging and unique.
  •  Improve Retention – Hook viewers early, deliver value, and avoid misleading titles.
  • Add variety to Your Content – don’t just copy trends; bring your unique perspective.
  • Test and Optimise – If one channel gets demonetised, learn from it and improve the next one.

Final Thoughts: Adapt or Risk Losing Monetisation

The YouTube July 15 updates are aiming at pushing Creators to create better content and not just more content. While AI can help speed up your work, creativity and genuineness are the way forward to success.

Important Points:

  1. Ad Changes – The “Bare Skin” ad category has been removed; please adjust your settings as needed.
  2. YPP Crackdown – Avoid repetitive, low-quality content to stay monetised.
  3. Focus on Retention – Make videos people actually watch, not just click on.

If you’re worried about these updates, now is the time to refine your strategy.
